Homemade fabric from nettles?
European innovatively produced ecological nettle is a very high quality fiber with a matte sheen. During the golden age of nettle in the 18th century, the royals used the finest nettle fibers in their clothing, which make up 30% of this yarn. Thanks to the new innovation, it is possible to make products that contain nettle yourself and enjoy the excellent properties of nettle. The nettle yarn is comfortable to weave, the hand feel is warm and the finished product is breathable thanks to the structure of the nettle core fiber. The fiber is just suitably porous to keep the skin at a suitable temperature.
Knokkon’s goal is to keep the carbon footprint of its products as small as possible. The materials are ecological and are sourced as close as possible. The nettle (urtica dioica) used in the fabric is ecologically and ethically cultivated in Germany. The fibers have been removed mechanically, without water, using an innovative method. The cotton used as a fabric binder is produced in Turkey ethically and ecologically. The yarns used in the fabric are spun in Germany and woven into fabric in Finland.
Nettle-hemp-cotton fabric is also an ecological choice because no plant protection products or pesticides are used in the cultivation of the materials. Nettle and hemp only need natural rain to grow, which also saves groundwater.
Thank you for choosing an ethically produced organic product!
